We just posted a new first look about the Sony Clie NZ90 that was recently introduced at CES. Thanks goes out to Matt !

Sony's latest development, the PEG-NZ90 follows closely on the model laid down by the NV and the newer NX series. The NV70 and NX70v were unique in the fact that they had an integrated camera on the unit itself, the one downside on these cameras was their rather poor quality. The NZ90 has completely reversed this downside, and has replaced the .3 mega-pixel camera from the NX70v to a full-fledged 2 mega-pixel one! The 2MP camera has a built in flash, a 2x digital zoom, and for icing on the cake, is able to record MPEG4 video.

I personally would not buy one of these. First off, the Palm OS is dead. Its old and powerless. Secondly, this unit costs WAY too much money in my opinion and like Matt said in the article, with no wireless card included, the price is even higher. I would rather take a PDA with a Microsoft PocketPC OS installed, or better yet, a phone/PDA hybrid for that price.

Definately a high price tag on this device.

I do like the design of Sony's lineup, they always find a way to change things (in good and bad ways). But I don't find anything in this device that would make ME feel that I should put the money down for it.

Now if that puppy came with a 4 megapixel camera or something....

;)

I'd have to disagree, I still think PalmOS is the best choice, and OS5 only makes this choice easier. Palm (and Sony's) problem right now is that they only use OS5 for their higher end, overkill models. I would pay extra for an PEG-SJ30, with OS5 (and the new hardware, of course).

:poke

The price is rather high, but I was thinking, what are you getting here?

2 mega pixle camerea ~ $199
MP3 player ~ $100
universal remote control with 5 (?) device support ~ $70
digital voice recorder ~ $50

~ $419

All of the above get saved on the exact same media type

PDA, you're getting:

UBER SEXY large screen
UBER SEXY keyboard
Bluetooth
wireless expandability (grr)
PalmOS5
A new way to pick up chicks (my! what a big PDA you have!)

So really, you're paying only $380 for a PDA :)

$799 - $419 = $380

just my two cents (or 38000 cents, I should say ;) )

looking @ the demo a bit closer, seems that this Clie is using Sony's Memory Stick Pro. (the first to do so, I believe)

review! xuber sexy!

Supposidly, the MSP can reach 32gb capacity.

Too bad all you can buy now is 128 MB. When is the 1 GB coming out anyways? I don't see how they are going to go from 128 all the way to 1 GB right away. They are not going to release it gradually like everyone else?

This is Sony's way of competing with the new SD memory cards hitting the market. I would not be surprised if Son'y uses the same technology in their memory sticks, but that they just have a different shape and interface.

I dunno, 32gb will be an interesting thing to see. Especially on that tiny little stick.

Definately. It will not scale to 32gb this year though, it's planned to reach that size by like 2010 is what Kuni Ando said at the key note speech. Exciting stuff!

Nice pic's. I will have to keep that web-browser in mind. I think we chatted about how to get internet access with the 90, but I forget. I think you can get 802.11b cards that fit into compact flash slots, but I'm not sure. This probably doesn't even support CF so it don't matter.

The FedEx guy called and said he couldn't find my house. I think he didn't want to drive all the way out here. What a BUM!

I got to call tomorrow and see about picking it up, I guess. It might not be the 90 anyways, plenty of other stuff it could be. I am excitied about this PDA!

the CFII slot on the NZ90 is technicly.. a CFII slot. the expansion card is 802.11b, and Sony is "working on" making CF drivers, dunno ETA or if they actually are tho.

the Wifi card is ~$149, you can get it at best buy ;D

30 days, no f00ken fee, just make sure you specify you need the Sony one. Actually, go to BB with your NZ90 and show them all and scoff at them.

The nz90 operating system has been completely redesigned for palm, with all these features this baby is gold!!!

Archon
04-15-2003, 12:52 PM
its still OS5, but it uses the Clie Launcher, which is REALLY slick, and makes use of the scroll on the Clies. (TG50, NX60/70v and the NZ90 all use it)

DGN_dwolfe

Actually, it's v5.2, your right though, the launcher is what makes it awesome.

So what is the battery life on this sucker? The NZ90 would make an awsome companion with all the features it has. You just better not break it or lose it or you are hating life!

Archon
04-24-2003, 09:37 PM
its Palm OS5. The first 5.2.1 device is going to be the Tungsten C.

The battery life is quite good. obviously, if you use the camera with the flash a lot (hell, a little ;)) its gonna suck your battery more. But the battery is removable, so just buy another and keep it on ya, if you know you're going to be using the camera a lot.

I made a low-quality video of me getting something to eat, using the NZ camera. low quality settings, remember ;) Oddly enough, it is the same video quality as the NX70v, just something to keep in mind. Since I dont want to rape my server of bandwidth, email me if you desperatly wanna see the video, or ask Ioman to host it ;)
