This will prob be a dumb question but I wanted to pose it just incase i don't screw something up.
I backup my system once a month to an external hard drive. Do you need to keep the past backups on your drive (as it is taking up space) or can i just delete them every month?
Thanks

It depends. If you are making incremental or differential backups (not doing a full disk/system backup each time), then you need to keep all the image files.
If you are doing a complete image each time (you'll know - it takes a while), it should be fine to delete the old ones.

Thank you neuroking I appreciate all the help. They were full system backups so I should be able to delete the previous ones.

Thats what I would do.
Sorry to BUT in...
I would keep 1-2 OLDER backups...Just in case, a virus/trojan has SLIPPEd into one of your backups. Its SAFER...
i agree with eca. Keep at least 1 - 2 previous backups. And if you still have your original, 1st backup i'd keep that too.
