Nintendo Confirms new Home Console Development

Speculation that Nintendo plans to exit the console hardware market has been scotched, with NCL president Satoru Iwata telling news agency Reuters that the company is planning for a new platform launch for 2005 - and that "when we withdraw from the home game console, that's when we withdraw from the video game business."

Good or bad move guys? I kind of think this is a bad move on Nintendo's part. They are barely hanging in there as it is, do they really want to dump money into another system?

Thanks for the heads up on this news, I'm kinda interested in it now.

I really wish nintendo the best of luck. I've always been a fan of their products, and believe that most of their products that they produce had significant value to it.

I guess we'll just have to see what their next device will be like.

I don't think any of the 3 companies can possibly have anything new to offer. Sure, maybe better graphics and possibly a built in HD for the PS3 and new Nintendo console, but what else?

By 2005, sure they can offer a lot. and it follows the typical trend of when a new console system is released.

Especially if their new system is backwards compatible with gamecube games and the new gameboys.

An hey, Nintendo is still doing excellent in Japan. I like Nintendo and think they make great games that I can have my kid play. In fact, gonna buy him new game today! :)

I think i posted a similar article, but maybe we did a news story about it. I hope that Nintendo can win back some market share in the console arena. I remember an industry analyst saying that they are not going anywhere because of their strong hold on the palm sized gaming platform. GBA rocks, but so does gamecube. Anything but S...
