Having sold close to two million units in December alone, the Nintendo DS has been the focus of much media and consumer attention on its home turf in Japan. But since the start of January, Nintendo has been struck by production problems and has been unable to meet a ferocious surge in demand. Back in January, the company issued an official apology on its website and promised to ramp up production and increase shipments. But then the DS Lite was announced, the increased shipments never happened, and people started putting two and two together.
