I use Windows Media Player for video files and Winamp for mp3's. I dont think I need anything else.

I use Sasami2k for video. I love it, even though its a bit buggy at times.

Winamp3 is OK, but needs to be improved upon. It could stand to be quicker and more stable. Other than that, it's cool.

To say that Winamp3 is a bit slow is an understatement. I have stuck with Winamp 2.80 for audio, and Windows Media Player 6.4....the best damned player MS ever made... best quality , small, loads fast, no extra fluff....its still better than MP 8 IMO. The only thing it lacks is playlist support....

Maybe I'll try sasami....

Yeah, I decided that I liked winamp 2.8 MUCH better than 3. They took away a lot by not supporting older plugins/skins and the fact that I still haven't gotten visualizations to work (if they are even present in 3). Therefore, I use Windows Media or Real which ever decides to be this weeks default video play for video, and I use winamp 2.8 for mp3's. I do listen to about 2 hours of Real Encoded stuff a day so I use RealOne Player a lot for that specific media type.

Don't get me wrong, I like the Real One player too, but I feel like the software is bloated. It does not load instantly and I feel there are too many ads attached to it as well.

I thought Sonique was nice too when I tried it, but just not as fast and as appealing as Winamp.

I try to use WiMP as little as possible. If it's my best option, I give up.

With that said, I also have WiMP Beta 9 (Corona) installed, which is better, but still, I'm going to have to stick with my previous statement.

I just get tired of trying to find something FREE, that will do allot of the formats. Only reason I got quicktime is a NET site wanted it and didnt like Media one.
It gets real tireing waiting for Media one to figure out there is NO net access, and to just PLAY what I want. If it gets Net access, it wants to show Adverts, and wont do ANYTHING until it does.
And the WAY they want you to load a selection(more then one at a time) of music SUCKS.

ECA, you talking about RealOne? I have never heard of Media One.

Anyways, Ioman..have you tried the latest RealOne? It loads faster then windows media player (7 & 8 that is).

Did you get my email about reviewer account?

I'm fairly impressed with the new Real One player myself. Quick load times, plays everything WMP does, decent codec library.

However, my expeirence in the past w/ Real Media products has me stickin w/ Windows Media Player, at least for now.

This is actually pretty good marketing info for Real Networks. It looks like people are hesitant with the new Real One player due to a bad history? Real will have to convince people otherwise. I think a review of their product would be great.

/em Come alive thread I resurrect you from the dead ~ :D

Codec Installation Package for Windows Media Player 7.1 or later
This package is for network administrators who want to deliver support for the latest Windows Media Audio and Video codecs for enterprise computers running Windows Media Player 7.1, Windows Media Player for Windows XP, Windows Media Player 9 Series, and Windows Media Player 10. This package contains the following codecs:

* Windows Media Audio 9
* Windows Media Screen 9
* Windows Media Audio 9 Voice
* Windows Media Video 7, 8, and 9
* Microsoft MPEG-4 version 3
* Microsoft MPEG-4 version 1 and 2
* ISO MPEG-4 version 1 and 1.1

Note: If you do not have Windows Media Player 9 Series or later installed and cannot play content by using the Windows Media Video 9 or Windows Media Audio 9 Voice codecs from a Player embedded in a Web page, consider downloading the codec installation package for Windows Media Player 6.4 as well.

Or you can just download the new version 10.

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/mp10/default.aspx

The only thing that I wish WMP did was play quicktime or real player content. It would be nice if the three companies could get along and play their different formats.

Ever since I installed that Mega ACE codec pack, WMP 10 is super slow. Sure it plays everything, but it feel clunky now.

where you get that ACE codec from and what does it let you play different than the link to codec's that I provided, which I think are the standard set in WMP 10.
