View Full Version : Axim demands more than Dell expected

It seems that Dell has underestimated the popularity that their new Axim devices would have. From what I've heard, orders placed in late december have now just begun shipping.

It's gotten so bad on their message boards (http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/board?board.id=AximOrder) that Cnet is now on this story!

"Dell launched the competitively priced Axim X5 in November in a move that marked the direct PC seller's entry into the handheld computer market. But now message boards on Dell's Web sites are filled with complaints from buyers upset that they don't yet have the gadgets they ordered weeks ago"

The rest of the article can be found here: http://news.com.com/2100-1040-981417.html

As an Axim owner in waiting, I have been following the message boards on Dell's forums, and other PDA site forums for the past two weeks, and everyone seems to be going crazy!

However, on a good note, I placed my order on the 15th of this month, and my expected ship date was to be on Feb. 5th. I checked my order status this morning, and it says that my unit was "In Transit", and I should be expecting it later next week. So that is really good news, seems that they are beating their expected ship dates.

I would also like to say that Chandler and the rest of the mods over in Dells Forums have done a great job on keeping up with posts and helping out as much as they can. :)

Ahhh just saw this thread. I have a couple freinds that bough thte Axim and love it. In my Consumer Behavior class we decided to use the new Dell Axim as a marketing strategy project. We are studying Dell's marketing techniques for the Axim and analyzing why those chose to market it the way they are.

What makes the Axim so good? I'm been tossing around the PDA bit for awhile, but I'm so lazy I don't want to carry around something that I won't use.

First and foremost, the Axim is cheap. It has a solid OS on it and has a lot of ports as well. I make due with out a PDA so you probably can as well.

My recommendation if you do not think you would use a PDA a lot is to get a mobile phone that syncs with your computers calender and e-mail. Then you have the best of both worlds.

they're nice, but I think they are too hard to enter information in (phones, that is), and besides, I would rather have a PDA. Watch movies, listen to music, read books, voice record, control the tv, vcr, etc..., take notes, use as pillow.

Most of the time, a small notepad and an ink pen work well for me at work. (always recognizes my writing too) Calendaring would be helpful, but not necessary. If I want to watch a movie, I'll crank up my laptop. I would like to have a portable device to run mp3's, check mail, do some calendaring. I've given up on the writing recognition software. I have a work supplied phone w/ liberal phone priviledges. Just haven't been able to justify the price. Maybe if I can get all that for < $100 then I'l lbe interested. Oh and it has to be 802.11x compliant and be color :) Therefore, I don't seem myself getting a PDA soon

The Sony Ericcson T68i is what I have and it works great. It syncs wirelessly using Bluetooth. I sync my calender, tasks, and contacts with it. It also has a camera add-on and the phone is about $50 after rebate. Oh and it's color and has some games....YAY!
