shdoclc.dll error again

Hello all,
the error that I am getting when I start up IE is the following: C:\windows\system32\shdoclc.dll/dnserror.htm and I can't get any sites up at all.
Can someone out there help with this problem again. I have searched through the previous threads for help on this subject but I can't get any joy. I have run CWS, Spybot still no joy. I have also made a **** up and renamed this file and now I can't change it back. please help before the pc goes for a swim!! :dunno Below is the hijack this log

Whats the name of the file you renamed? shdoclc.dll is a legit file. I believe theres a place where you can download the file again. I'll have to check into that.

Your copy of HijackThis needs to be in a folder of it's own. When HJT fixes anything, it makes backups of the original files in the folder it is in. For this reason it cannot be run from a Zip file or from Temporary folders because the backups will be deleted. Having the backups could be VITAL to restoring your system if something went wrong in the FIX process!


1. Please go to you're 'My Documents' folder, right-click and select 'New > Folder' then name the folder 'HJT'.

2. Copy and paste HijackThis.exe to the new folder.

3. Unplug the internet from your computer
Reboot To Safe Mode (tap F8 on Startup)

Open up Hijack This and Place a check next to each of these and click Fix Checked.

Still In Safe Mode Delete all Temporary Internet Files, Cookies, Run CW Shredder, AdAware and Spybot, Delete what they find , Empty Recycle Bin.

jim, thanks for your reply.
I renamed the file to shdoclc1.dll but I also have another file shdoclc.dll in system32 as well.
I did as instructed but still no joy. Attached below is the latest logfile from HJT.
I have found out that by turning off Norton Internet Security I can log onto the internet and it all works perfectly. This is a downloaded version of NIS 2006? Is the problem attached to this downloaded version?I wait for your reply once again thanks for the help.

Norton may be the problem. Its such a System Hog. I had it on my computer and I had problems. My computer ran real slow. I had a virus on there that Norton Missed. I dont reccomend Norton at all. I switched to Trend Micro and I'm pretty happy with it.As soon as I ran it it found that Virus Norton missed. Also E-Trust is supposed to be very good. Ive heard alot of good reviews on it.

That may be the problem if everything works fine when you turn Norton off. Your log looks ok. This one is new you may want to remove it.

If you remove Norton make sure you remove it correctly.But dont remove it till you get one of the other AntiVirus programs...........Jim
