View Full Version : Serious system Infection

DM

Hello everyone,

I suspect having serious system anomalies. My Norton Antivirus has detected some infections but is unable to delete them. Lately my internet brownsers (IE & mozilla) have become very vulnerable to pop-ups and are redirected to very peculiar website addresses (serial numbers).

When I switch to safe mode, my keyboard "fails" and whenever I attempt to type or otherwise perform basic operations with it, the whole system completely freezes.

Please help anyone.

On Norton will it let you quarantine. If so quarantine what it finds. Your log does have alot of Spyware. Follow the directions below,

Your copy of HijackThis needs to be in a folder of it's own. When HJT fixes anything, it makes backups of the original files in the folder it is in. For this reason it cannot be run from a Zip file or from Temporary folders because the backups will be deleted. Having the backups could be VITAL to restoring your system if something went wrong in the FIX process!

1. Please go to you're 'My Documents' folder, right-click and select 'New > Folder' then name the folder 'HJT'.

2. Copy and paste HijackThis.exe to the new folder.

3. Download The Stand Alone Version of CW Shredder,Spybot, AdAware, (Links at the bottom of my message) If you have them allready make sure they are up to date.

You may want to print this out
Unplug the internet from your computer
Reboot To Safe Mode (tap F8 on Startup)

Delete these Files and or Folders

C:\windows\mousepad10.exe
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Windows\services32.exe
C:\Program Files\Network Monitor\netmon.exe
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Windows\AutoIt3.exe

Still In Safe Mode Open up Hijack This and Place a check next to each of these and click Fix Checked.

Hi there,

I'm still having problems despite having run spybot, Norton Anti-virus and Ewido and promptly deleting the detected malware and spyware programs. POP-Ups still emerge and redirect me to bogus "system clean-up" sites.

The log looks much better. Still a few 020s here with missing files. best to get rid of them. Continue running the spyware programs for the next couple of days.

Unplug the internet from your computer
Reboot To Safe Mode (tap F8 on Startup)

Open up Hijack This and Place a check next to each of these and click Fix Checked.

Still In Safe Mode Delete all Temporary Internet Files, Cookies, Run CW Shredder, AdAware and Spybot, Delete what they find , Empty Recycle Bin.

Plug the internet back in and Reboot to normal mode and post a new log..........Jim

Hi there,

There seems to be a resurgency in spyware and malware programs attacking my system. At the start-up, certain programs such Norton-Anti virus take a considerable amount of time to load. From experience I know that when this happens, it is usually because hidden malware and/or spyware programs load at the beginning of windows start-up, hence causing programs such as the one indicated to take longer to load.

I have checked with multiple Anti-virus programs such as Ad-aware, spybot, ewido and indeed Norton Anti-virus. Only Ad-aware managed to detect a few serious infected files but I strongly believe there's more.

Could you please check my log?

You may want to print this out
Unplug the internet from your computer
Reboot To Safe Mode (tap F8 on Startup)

Open up Hijack This and Place a check next to each of these and click Fix Checked.

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [flap plan] C:\DOCUME~1\DM\APPLIC~1\SUPPOR~1\linkseekmail.exe
O20 - AppInit_DLLs: pushow84.dll

Still In Safe Mode Delete all Temporary Internet Files, Cookies, Run CW Shredder, AdAware and Spybot, Delete what they find , Empty Recycle Bin.

Plug the internet back in and Reboot to normal mode

Run Ewido Security suite

http://download.ewido.net/ewido-setup.exe

Run Ewido:
Click on scanner
Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
NOTE: During some scans with ewido it is finding cases of false positives.
You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
If ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
DO NOT select "Perform action on all infections"
If you are unsure of any entry found select none for now.
When the scan is finished, click the Save report button at the bottom of the screen.
Save the report to your desktop
Close Ewido

Post a new HijackThis log along with the Ewido log you saved.........Jim

Keep an eye on it, If you have more problems post a new log.

Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:

Use an AntiVirus Software - It is very important that your computer has an anti-virus software running on your machine. This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future.

See this link for a listing of some online & their stand-alone antivirus programs:

Virus, Spyware, and Malware Protection and Removal Resources (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=405)

Update your AntiVirus Software - It is imperitive that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.

Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is succeptible to being hacked and taken over. I am very serious about this and see it happen almost every day with my clients. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly.

For a tutorial on Firewalls and a listing of some available ones see the link below:

Understanding and Using Firewalls (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/index.php?showtutorial=60)

Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.

Install Spybot - Search and Destroy - Install and download Spybot - Search and Destroy with its TeaTimer option. This will provide realtime spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using Spybot - Search & Destroy to remove Spyware , Malware, and Hijackers (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/index.php?showtutorial=43)

Install Ad-Aware - Install and download Ad-Aware. ou should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software in conjunction with Spybot.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using Ad-aware to remove Spyware, Malware, & Hijackers from Your Computer (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/index.php?showtutorial=48)

Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using SpywareBlaster to protect your computer from Spyware and Malware (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/index.php?showtutorial=49)

Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.

Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.

Glad I was able to help.......Jim
