View Full Version : i need some help please!
Hey everybody !
I need some information and i hope you will be able to help me ...Recently my job is connected with lots of travelling ,so i need a worldwide GPS system ..A friend advised me not to buy TomTom ,because it has some connectivity problems in Europe ,and also told me to try some rookies on the market ,which offer free try outs ...So i checked and the most popular one which i found is called NAV4ALL ..You can download it for free from their website ,which is pretty convinient..The only thing is i that i don`t know if it is safe to do this ..Has anybody checked it out ?Can you give me some sort of feedback ?And if no ,can you recommend me some user friendly and reliable gps software?
Thank you in advance!!

the thing is that it works for me in the US.. it's true that the software is pretty simplified and the maps are 2D, but hey, i'm not very "technolgy literate" myself... in general the software is not like "wow" if u compare it to tomtom you'll not be very astonished... but it hadn't got me lost so far.. that's all i'm saying...
well it is ok ,i don`t need nothing much ...just some guidance for the main roads and the highways ..but what bothers me is the price for the ongoing services..is it expensive to use ?

The monthly fees for using the services lies between 0,50 and 2 euros. Depends on on the kind of subscription you choose http://www.nav4all.com/site2/www.nav4all.com/eng/download look at bottom of the page and at the faq look at question 8
10x very much i will check it out as soon as possible ..:) this sounds pretty cheep ,but i guess i should also pay for the data transfer ,right ?

there are two things about nav4all... first of all the trafic from the i-net is not as expensive as many pelple think and second of all the program downloads only selective maps from the requested area... meaning you'll not have to download all the maps, then only use a few and thus still pay for the rest of the maps that you'll not ever gonna use. this suits me pretty well :)
well this sounds just great Smile this means that i don`t have to download the whole map then ..wow ,this would decrease the costs i guess Smile
this is so interesting ..like a month ago nobody knew something about this software and now all my friends are talking about it .. Smile
but tell me ,except these two things ,is there something which i also need to know ?any drawbacks?
dRAWBACKS TO SOFTWARE/HARDWARE, THAT CAN TELL YOU YOUR LOCATION??
Sorry caps lock was on.
If you are looking at the idea of locating yourself INSIDE a city?? It probably wont work well, in tell you WHATS around you.
Beware, that changes, in the cities and towns, like construction, make things change. And GPS service dont keep up. Even in the US, you could find yourself on a dead end, from a Proposed road, that was shut down.
as to geologically, It can tell you Where you are...Few geological places change very fast. Rather it TELL me where I am, then to TRY and tell me where to go. find your own way, city maps may not always be correct.
yeah , u r right ,but shouldn`t it be the main point of this software-to avoid the things which u mentioned by providing u with a real time map?
NOPE,
As has been RECENTLY done...
They have cracked the euro GPs sats to give you GPS.
Between the US and europe, the odds are you cant get both yet.
cities and roads change, ALOT as they are man made. and keeeping up to date depends on INFORMATION...
If they dont get it, they WONT have it..
hm...if they cracked the satelite..doesn`t this make them illegal, or i `m not getting the point?
Yep,
It was/is illegal...
But the Euro Cell companies wouldnt give the Specs to anyone. So they havked the sat..

Hey silv,
I don't know where your friend got their information, but tomtom is based in europe and is known for having better maps there too. they use teleatlas which i think is also europe based, and has maps for cells, pdas, etc not just tomtoms. And it isn't illegal - worth checking out. I have a tomtom one in my car and really like it.
