I'm not 100% sure how to explain this but i'll try.
The other day my laptop froze up while I was working on it.. I had to reboot it, and when I did -- it wouldn't load. It said I needed to do a disc check, let it run and it froze at 0%... I left it running for a good 30 mins and nothing. So I rebooted again, and skipped the check... The windows loading page came up but then IT froze... again for over 30 mins before I said ok and gave up.
Since then, i've been told to get an external case for my HDD and try to recover the data to a PC. I tried this, but it wouldn't let me access my user profile - I could access everything else except couldnt get to the data which I really really need to backup.
When this didn't work, I tried doing a Windows Repair on it by attaching it back to the laptop. It asked for "administrator password" for c:/ but i dont have one. I read somewhere that this is the BIOS password?? It was preset when I purchased the laptop and haven't been able to find it anywhere.. I've emailed Acer but who knows if they'll reply.
Now this morning, I tried plugging it back in to my PC using the external USB case and my profile isn't even on there anymore.. It previous listed the following under documents and settings:
- All users
- Default users
- Jo-Anne (me!)
- Jo-Anne.JO-ANNE
- Jo-Anne.JO-ANNE.000
and now it has the same, except for "Jo-Anne" which is the old folder that had my files in it. Are they accessible anyway, or can I recover them at all? Its really important as I'm currently completing my Diploma and ALL my work is on there. I was working on it at the time it all happened, which is the reason I hadn't backed it up yet. Usually I backup onto my USB stick but someone stole it so now I have nothing. PLEASE HELP!! :(
I know a fair bit about computers when windows works, but this is foreign grounds for me.
