I was playing bridge using my laptop IBM 570 with xp+sp2, when suddenly

everything went blank and a blue screen with a message re Fat 32 appeared

momentarily, then laptop shut down!

I have tried to restart it but, 'tho all the lights flash, it won't power up!

Any tips gratefully accepted!

I actually have a question on a similar tangent.

My GF managed to kill her laptop, but I think it will start up in 'safe mode'. She recently got one of the new Macbooks (not the pro, but the 13 inch. More than enough for her!)

Can I still transfer files from her old PC laptop in safe-mode to her new mac? I know she has some stuff that she'd rather not loose....

So you are running Windows XP dual boot on the new MAcBook I assume? You should be able to boot up in safe-mode with networking enabled (an option you have to choose when booting up) and then transfer files that way.

No, not running WinXP on the MacBook. Like I said, its my GF's and she's how shall I say...worthless is any kind of technology. I'm trying to keep it as simple as I can.

But I think you gave me the info I need.

Is there a way to mount the PC/Dell laptop in a "target disk mode" like you can when you're using a Mac?

Do you think that would should up on the Dell even if its in safe mode? I wonder if that wouldn't be easier....
