Hi there!

I currently own a desktop ASUS P4P800 SE (A9250) running the Windows XP OS and it is acting very odd. At times you have to press the power button once, wait a bit and then press it again before it finally turns on.

If you are lucky, the monitor switches on and then you wait a very long loading time before my desktop appears. Now and again I turn the monitor and it doesn’t detect a signal though the computer is definitely on.

All devices at this point are working except the keyboard, which only has the ‘Num Lock’ on but doesn’t work at all (I can’t type and have to use the virtual on-screen keyboard provided by Windows).

I used RegistryFix and Advanced Windows Care to try and repair registry problems but no avail.

Another oddity is that yesterday the computer would only start if all USB devices were unplugged.

There was also this time where the computer was turned on, and then shut down before even reaching the welcome screen.

Does anybody recognize this behavior? I hope you can help me!

I would contact ASUS,
there could be a few problems.
1. A card, is NOT inserted properly and is shorting the board, and the PNP isnt properly being read.
2. Mother board failure.
3. power supply is failing to power a channel properly, to turn on devices at the correct voltage. Esp the chipset on the mobo, as the USB occurance suggests.
4. VOLTAGE spike has fried something on the mobo.. OR, you are NOT getting proper POWEr to the unit somehow, What is on the same POWER plug as your computer and do you have proper PROTECTION, UPS, Spike protection, Low voltage protection, EMF/Radio freq protection?????

Has someone RECENTLY opened your computer, or changed some hardware.

Yes, someone recently used good parts of this malfunctional DELL and replaced the ones in the ASUS.

Hmmm, And what CAUSED the malfuntion in the other machine...PULL them out 1 at a time, SEE IF, things work better.
Problem with useing USED parts, ESP!!! If it was a power related problem, or SPIKE related, is NOT ALL cards may show damage... First HIT, may be BAD, but other cards are weakened..
ASLO, you have a PCI ONLY, not PCI X, or ANYTHING ELSE, so useing a PCI video may not work well.
