My son's computer has been hit with what seemed liked 100 viruses. They even kicked us off the net and I had a heck of a time reinstalling a bunch of stuff. He uses AOL IM and My Space alot. Anyway, we are back on but still have a handful of things I can't get rid of and everytime the spyware systems say to reboot to get rid of the problems, they just reload. I need help please - here is my log:

You may want to print this out, You will have to be in Safe Mode for parts of this.

Your copy of HijackThis needs to be in a folder of it's own. When HJT fixes anything, it makes backups of the original files in the folder it is in. For this reason it cannot be run from a Zip file or from Temporary folders because the backups will be deleted. Having the backups could be VITAL to restoring your system if something went wrong in the FIX process!

1. Please go to you're 'My Documents' folder, right-click and select 'New > Folder' then name the folder 'HJT'.

2. Copy and paste HijackThis.exe to the new folder.

3. Download The Stand Alone Version of CW Shredder,Spybot, AdAware, (Links at the bottom of my message) If you have them allready make sure they are up to date.

You may want to print this out
Unplug the internet from your computer
Reboot To Safe Mode (tap F8 on Startup)

Delete these Files and or Folders

C:\Program Files\ipwins\ipwins.exe

Still In Safe Mode Open up Hijack This and Place a check next to each of these and click Fix Checked.

Still In Safe Mode Delete all Temporary Internet Files, Cookies, Run CW Shredder, AdAware and Spybot, Delete what they find , Empty Recycle Bin.

Plug the internet back in and Reboot to normal mode and post a new log..........Jim :eww

I followed the very clear directions (thank you very much), but am still having some of these that won't delete. I am still getting the SpyBot message that finds these items, but says it can't delete them until I reboot and they still don't go away. Please help me figure out what else I can do to get rid of these 5 items that won't go away. 3 of them are Surf Side items, 1 is .dll and the final one is the last item on your list of wmiapsv.exe (everything else seems to have gone away)Thanks!!!!

You have a bad one, Sometimes you have to try different things to get this spyware. In a perfect world we could kill it on the first try. :eww

C:\Program Files\SurfSideKick 3\SskBho.dll

See if you can remove SurfSidekick through Add/Remove Programs(in normal mode). If not you can delete the entire SurfSidekick folder manually(In Safe Mode). It will be in your Program Files folder.

Also I see you have Ewido Security Suite.

Run Ewido:
Click on scanner
Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
NOTE: During some scans with ewido it is finding cases of false positives.
You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
If ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
DO NOT select "Perform action on all infections"
If you are unsure of any entry found select none for now.
When the scan is finished, click the Save report button at the bottom of the screen.
Save the report to your desktop
Close Ewido

Post a new HijackThis log along with the Ewido log you saved.........Jim

Thank you Jim for your help, looks like you a right, this is an ugly one. I tried to use add/remove programs, but when I did so, SurfSideKick was not on the list of programs. I then went to safe mode and tried to delete the files. That failed too as I got an error messgae stating: Cannot delete sskbho.dll It is being used by another person or program. I then tried to run Ewido in Safe Mode several times (each scan takes about an hour or so). Anyway, when Ewido finishes the scan, it then goes into clean mode. Everytime it tries to clean sskbho.dll it freezes and never finishes cleaning. Therefore, I do not have an Ewido log to show you, as it always bombs out and never finishes so I can get a log.

I have attached another HJT log just in case you need it. What else can I do????

OK Jim - here is where I am at:

1. I restarted in Safe Mode and ran the task manager as instructed. Funny thing is, SSKBho.dll was not there and neither was ssk.exe. As a matter of fact, I ran a windows search on ssk.exe and found that it did not exist on my computer. There are only 2 files left in the Surf Sidekick folder and both are .dll files. Here is a list of what was in task manager, just in case it helps:

Taskmgr.exe
Explorer.exe
Svchost.exe
Svchost.exe
Svchost.exe
Lsass.exe
Services.exe
Winlog.exe
Crss.exe
Smss.exe
System
System Idle Process

Could I need to close one or more of these first, then try the rest of the steps??

The other file that is a big problem resides in c:\windows\system32\Repairs303169590.dll This one keeps popping up on Ewido as an alert everytime I reboot my system, but it can't delete it.

Although the first part of your instructions didn't work, i did try the second set using HJT. I tried to delete all 3 files that I knew about on start up, but all 3 are still there (I tried everything several times, just in case).

What else can you think of?? Thanks again Jim for trying to help me with this nightmare!!! :brick

I asked one of my friends on another website and he came up with this fix.

If there is no Add/Remove Programs entry for this programs, click on Start, then Run and Copy/Paste the following in the Open: field:

C:\Program Files\SurfSideKick 3\Ssk.exe /u

and press the OK button. A code will be displayed that it will ask you to enter. Enter this code and reboot. Once back to your desktop continue with the rest of the fix.

Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {02EE5B04-F144-47BB-83FB-A60BD91B74A9} - C:\Program Files\SurfSideKick 3\SskBho.dll

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SurfSideKick 3] C:\Program Files\SurfSideKick 3\Ssk.exe

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [SurfSideKick 3] C:\Program Files\SurfSideKick 3\Ssk.exe

O20 - AppInit_DLLs: repairs303169590.dll

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

Delete these Files if listed:

c:\windows\system32\Repairs303169590.dll

Download the following reg file to your desktop. When it is finished downloading double-click on it and say Yes when it asks if you would like to merge the data.

Fixssk.reg

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/spyware/fixssk.reg

Let me know if this fix worked. Good luck.......Jim

I couldn't get the first part to work because I kept getting errors saying Cannot find 'C:\Program' Make sure typed the name correctly. I copy and pasted it from your post an dplayed around with the spaces just in case there was a typo in there, but no luck.

I tried to go to step 2 and run HJT as stated, but I got an error:

An unexpected error has occurred at procedure: modBackup_MakeBackup(sItem=O20 - AppInit_DLLs: repairs303169590.dll)
Error #5 - Invalid procedure call or argument

Please email me at merijn@spywareinfo.com, reporting the following:
* What you were trying to fix when the error occurred, if applicable
* How you can reproduce the error
* A complete HijackThis scan log, if possible

Windows version: Windows NT 5.01.2600
MSIE version: 6.0.2900.2180
HijackThis version: 1.99.1

This message has been copied to your clipboard.
Click OK to continue the rest of the scan.

Should I go ahead and e-mail this person or do you have another suggestion? I did download the Fixssk.reg to my desktop, but did not run it yet since steps 1 and 2 didn't seem to work, i didn't want to screw up anything else. What do you think?

You can email that person, he may be able to help. I'm also gonna send you to the other website where I got this fix from, You should be helped by LittleEagle or LDTate. Both are Spyware experts. :thumb

Thanks for the Link, Looks like you got LDTate. He is one of the best, looks like he is deleting some Dell stuff. Could be related. I'll keep an eye on that thread, thanks..........Jim :vivi
