I always have problems on my cdrom drives, i had 4 cdroms for the last 5 years because after using it for a little more than a year it wont detect cds anymore. What seems to be the problem here? I always end up buying a new cdrom drive, any tips on what i can do?
Interesting, and there can be a few problems.
1. is HEAT.
Many CDROM/DVD players are set into the top of a BOX that gets over 100 degrees.. It would be neet to have VENTS in the top, as the only FAN in the top of computers is for the Power supply. HEAt can distort the PLASTIC laser Lens...
2. DIRT.
CD/DVD's have taken the place of the Floppy. AND the same problems. It face plate ISNT protection enough from FANS inside, SUCKING AIR though the machine. Can you say DUST BUNNIES, and WADS of DIRT.
3. CHEAP CD/DVD drives...
I dont think I need to explain this much. That there are ALOT of them out there, and you get what you pay for, and MAY get MORE then you pay'd for.

Have you tried the drives on another PC to see if they work? Maybe the PSU is causing some of the problems and short circuiting something?
