Strangest thing

My friend say that he is unable to reeboot his comp into safe mode....

How to use the System Configuration Utility method to Start Your Computer in Safe Mode in XP

*Close all open programs.
*Click Start, and then click Run. The Run dialog box appear and in the box type 'msconfig' (without the quotes)
*click OK.
*The System Configuration Utility appears
*Out a check mark beside the "/SAFEBOOT" option
*click OK.
*Click Restart.The computer restarts in Safe mode.

*when finished troubleshooting repeat steps 1-3
*in step 4, uncheck "/SAFEBOOT"
*click OK
*close all programs
*restart the computer as you normally would.

How to use the F8 method to Start Your Computer in Safe Mode if XP is the only OS

*Restart the computer.
*as soon as BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the Advanced Options menu appears.
*Use the arrow keys to select the Safe mode menu item
*press Enter.
*Reboot when finished troubleshooting

How to Start Your Computer In Safe Mode When There Is More Than One OS With XP

*start the computer
*Wait until the list of available operating systems appears
*use the arrow keys to select the version of Windows that you want to boot to safe mode.
*Press Enter and then immediately begin tapping the F8 key
*Windows Advanced Options menu appears.
*Use the arrow keys to select Safe mode
*press Enter.
*Reboot when finished troubleshooting

Your copy of HijackThis needs to be in a folder of it's own. When HJT fixes anything, it makes backups of the original files in the folder it is in. For this reason it cannot be run from a Zip file or from Temporary folders because the backups will be deleted. Having the backups could be VITAL to restoring your system if something went wrong in the FIX process!


1. Please go to you're 'My Documents' folder, right-click and select 'New > Folder' then name the folder 'HJT'.

2. Copy and paste HijackThis.exe to the new folder.

3. Download The Stand Alone Version of CW Shredder,Spybot, AdAware, (Links at the bottom of my message) If you have them allready make sure they are up to date.

You may want to print this out
Unplug the internet from your computer
Reboot To Safe Mode (tap F8 on Startup)

Delete this file
Delete these Files and or Folders

C:\WINDOWS\System32\isnotify.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\issearch.exe


Still In Safe Mode Open up Hijack This and Place a check next to each of these and click Fix Checked.

Still In Safe Mode Delete all Temporary Internet Files, Cookies, Run CW Shredder, AdAware and Spybot, Delete what they find , Empty Recycle Bin.

Plug the internet back in and Reboot to normal mode and post a new log.
