Hello,

Is anybody aware of LCD life span?

I mean "back light" life span: ie time when LCD brightness is half the initial brightness.

Thanks.

i heard from a dealer at Comet that if you watched telly for 5 hours a day each day then it would last for about 25 years, so thats about 13years if you watched it for 10 hours a day everyday and so on..
hope that was some help. :thumb

The lifespan should be similiar to a regular CRT television which is about 30,000 hours. So 25 years sounds about right I think.

Even at 25 years, some LCD panels (a few from Samsung) have replaceable backlights. What does this mean? Well if your backlight dies, you can replace it for a fraction of the cost of a new display.

Is that when the sun is directly on the screen? because the sun just shines on the back of my telly.

Look at the operating temp...Generally its less then 100f degrees.. MOST times is less then 90f... A black surface will cause this temp to rise.. heating the unit will cause the TFT to fail.
Ragular monitors have ROOm inside for the temp to expnad and disapate...TFT DONT..
Keep it protected from the sun light.. And if the temp in the room, hits 90F or higher, its not advisable to even USe your computer.
Unless you have a water/other COOLEd system, there isnt enough temp variation to keep the system cool inside..
Goto Phoenix, Even when a car has Coolant, and its 120, it isnt enough to COOL the engine..They over heat and sutdown or DIE. On you r computer you will get LOTS of shutdowns, FIRST...The more it happens the worse it will HURt the computer.

LCD's tend to fade after about 5 years forcing you to turn up the brightness I find.
