Need help

[Eradicate]

Ok I seem to have contracted some nasty spyware again. Symptoms are one of the annoying warning things in the bottom right, lots of popups, and for some reason I can't even access my task manager (new one on me). Here is my log file...would appreciate any help.

Your copy of HijackThis needs to be in a folder of it's own. When HJT fixes anything, it makes backups of the original files in the folder it is in. For this reason it cannot be run from a Zip file or from Temporary folders because the backups will be deleted. Having the backups could be VITAL to restoring your system if something went wrong in the FIX process!


1. Please go to you're 'My Documents' folder, right-click and select 'New > Folder' then name the folder 'HJT'.

2. Copy and paste HijackThis.exe to the new folder.


3. Download The Stand Alone Version of CW Shredder,Spybot, AdAware, (Links at the bottom of my message) If you have them allready make sure they are up to date.


You may want to print this out
Unplug the internet from your computer
Reboot To Safe Mode (tap F8 on Startup)

Delete these Files and or Folders

C:\WINDOWS\System32\testtestt.exe
C:\windows\system32\stonedrv.exe
C:\WINDOWS\??curity\j?vaw.exe
C:\Windows\xpupdate.exe


Still In Safe Mode Open up Hijack This and Place a check next to each of these and click Fix Checked.

Still In Safe Mode Delete all Temporary Internet Files, Cookies, Run CW Shredder, AdAware and Spybot, Delete what they find , Empty Recycle Bin.

[Eradicate]

Ok I have done all I could of what you asked. After posting originally I ran the eiwdo (however it's spelled) program and it actually did a good job. It removed a lot of things and actually got the annoying popup to go away. I believe that it's because I ran that program that some of the things I was supposed to delete could not be found. However, after getting rid of all I could my task manager still is not accessible. I can actually see at least one thing already previously deleted, not really sure what I did wrong to let it back, but here is my new log...

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.

Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it. Click the Scan for Vundo button.
Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click yes.
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click ok.
Turn your computer back on.

[Eradicate]

Ok vundo says it did not find anything. After the first attempted clearing, some things are running better. For instance I couldn't even run a search before, though I can now. Still can't get the task manager up, and the comp seems to be running slower. I think at least part of the reason it runs slower though is that I've kinda loaded my comp up with anti-spyware equipment since I got this. I know in the past I've had problems with getting some of the files off the comp with HJT the first time, only to have it work later. I cannot remember if I did anything differently on those times though. Anyway here is my log...

I dont see an antivirus program on here. Download AVG AntiVirus.

Unplug the internet from your computer
Reboot To Safe Mode (tap F8 on Startup)


Still In Safe Mode Open up Hijack This and Place a check next to each of these and click Fix Checked.

Still In Safe Mode Delete all Temporary Internet Files, Cookies, Run CW Shredder, AdAware and Spybot, Delete what they find , Empty Recycle Bin.

Plug the internet back in and Reboot to normal mode. Run AVG Antivirus. Delete or quarantine what it finds. Reboot again and post a new log..........Jim

[Eradicate]

Sorry for the imprompt response, I have started a new job and have been exhausted. Anyway, I have run everything the best I can. The weird thing about AVG was that it found several things, but for some reason would not let me delete them. When I selected delete it gave me some kind of "action not available" message. I then went into my files and deleted as many as I could. Unfortunately some were in a system 32 folder than I cannot bring up for the life of me. Also, some of those files that AVG had found in the search would then bring up a new popup from AVG prompting me to delete them. Looking at the Log I see the 020 is still there, which was also identified by AVG, though I still do not know how to get rid of it. A search does not bring it up either. Anyway here is my updated log... (and since I haven't said it yet, I do appreciate everything you're doing Jim)
