I'm sure everyone's read this by now. Steve Irwin was killed by a stingray while filming a documentary. I don't know why but ever since I heard the news this has just bugged me all day. He had two kids including a two year old. I wasn't a big fan of his but for some reason I feel really badly about it. I didn't dislike him, I just never really watched much of his stuff.
From what I did see of him, he was one crazy dude. But you could tell he really loved what he got to do in life. That's all anyone can ask for.
What's going to be terrible is that you know it's only a matter of time before the video is all over the 'net.
Anyway, I just felt compelled to post something about it.
RIP

This is huge news. I am not a fan of his, but I know he was a really nice guy. I guess the last time someone died from a Stingray was in 1938. They are not super dangerous, but I guess this one in particular stabbed him hard in his chest with its barbed tail.
RIP Steve

It definitely sounds like a freak accident. I read that only something like 17 people are known to have been killed by a stingray since the mid-1800's. In those that were documented, it typically was because a vital organ was struck (as in the case with Irwin.)

yeah, heart strike + venom = really bad. Even if the damage was minor, the venom would have been highly concentrated right where you don't want it to be.
I wasn't a big fan, but I've watched a handful of his shows. Everyone I talked to is really bummed about it. He just seemed like an incredibly genuine guy, which can be hard to come by these days.

Yeh this was bad news, especialy in Australia. I think Jeff Corwin will replace the Irwin as the most likable wild life enthusiast.

PETA didn't have many nice things to say:
“It comes as no shock at all that Steve Irwin should die provoking a dangerous animal,” PETA’s Dan Mathews tells The Scoop. “He made a career out of antagonizing frightened wild animals, which is a very dangerous message to send to kids.”
Does Irwin’s career as a naturalist impress the animal-rights group? Says Mathews: “If you compare him with a responsible conservationist like Jacques Cousteau, he looks like a cheap reality TV star.”

Wow he said "should die" thats really nasty there, totally uncalled for.
I like Jeff Corwin too. From my understanding there were many australians that didnt like Steve Irwin for some reason. At least according to some australians I know.

As PETA alluded to many people thought his stunts were cruel to the animals.
