View Full Version : Digital guy thinking about CRT

Hi everyone,

I would really appreciate some help, and here's an opportunity to entice someone over to the dark side.

I have seen a few 9" CRT installations and agree hands down that the PQ is awesome. I have discounted CRT due to cost, complexity of installations and maintenance, size, heat, etc (the usual digital excuses/complaints).

However, in the back of my mind rests the idea that I can't live with a compromise in PQ after the small fortune I have spent on my dedicated HT.

Here are some parameters to consider:

I have a large dedicated HT with total light control. The room is approx. 27 x 17 x 10. My ceiling is completely reinforced and can handle anything I would ever want to mount up their.

I would like to keep the screen size at 11' diag. I currently have a Firehawk and realize I would need to replace it.

My total budget is around 25k - 35k, includes PJ/PJ's, screen replacement and scaler.

Could anyone make some recommendations on products and vendors I should deal with. From reading some threads in this section it seems that B stock or used / refurbished CRT's are the way to go.

Would I need stacked CRT's for that size screen?

Am I dreaming here with this budget and size screen?

Any other words of wisdom or advice for me?

Any help would be very much appreciated
