Midi Problems

Whenever I play a midi file from the internet, there is a very loud sound that just plays suddenly. It's a very short sound and afterwards the midi continues playing normally, apart from the initial outburst. What is the reason for this 'outburst' and how do I resolve it?

Is this when playing from your PC? Can you post some specifics like your PC hardware, what software you are using, soundcard etc? Once I get that I should be able to help more.
