My machine is a 3GHz with 512 ram. My C drive is 19gig and the D and E partitions are 35gig each. I have McAfee and ZoneAlarm.

Problem: When I want to save any Microsoft file I click 'save as' and the window comes up normally. The instant I click any folder to save in, it can take up to 5+ minutes for the drop down to come up, then if I want to save in a subfolder, another 5+ minutes for that folder to unfreeze. And so on.

I've cleaned my machine, cleaned the registry, no viruses. While all this is going on I can open a explorer window and if I want to view other files - - then it slows waaay down.

I can't figure it out - any help is appreciated.

I think this problems is because you do not have enough space in your system. First, start your system in Safe mode and see whether you experience the same problem. If not, then it can be due to insufficient space. Try to remove unnecessary programs using Add/Remove Programs and check what happens.

19 gb for your c: partition is not very much at all. It sounds like you have a fairly small drive, how old is it?

Have you done a check disk on it? It might be signs that the drive is starting to die.
