I'm trying to decide whether external amps would be a good upgrade to my home audio system. Right now it looks like I'll be running NHT 2.4s via the HK AVR-8000.
My question is this: I'm currently running these speakers with a Yamaha RX-V1000. I'm VERY satisfied with the volume output of the speakers with the Yamaha. It's running at 100 W/channel, the HK will be 110 W/channel. The speakers are rated for up to 180. Is there a benefit to getting an external amp other than volume? I'm considering the Outlaw 770 (I don't have a 7.1 speaker setup yet, but will), but am unsure as to why I'd need this and why the built-in amps in the AV Receiver aren't sufficient.
