I'm trying to decide whether external amps would be a good upgrade to my home audio system. Right now it looks like I'll be running NHT 2.4s via the HK AVR-8000.

My question is this: I'm currently running these speakers with a Yamaha RX-V1000. I'm VERY satisfied with the volume output of the speakers with the Yamaha. It's running at 100 W/channel, the HK will be 110 W/channel. The speakers are rated for up to 180. Is there a benefit to getting an external amp other than volume? I'm considering the Outlaw 770 (I don't have a 7.1 speaker setup yet, but will), but am unsure as to why I'd need this and why the built-in amps in the AV Receiver aren't sufficient.

If you are satisfied with the volume level than there should be no reason to buy an external amp. Plus if you buy the new Outlaw reciever like you mentioned, than you will probably have the capability to produce more sound.
