This is amazing:

Some people have figured out how to hack the soon to be released Vista Volume License Activation Server (a stand alone server product) running in VMWare (a virtualization tool).

This allows people to activate Vista for 180days at a time.

Really interesting.

Has anyone tried Vista? I have, and the thing blue screens on me all the time to the point I dont use it. I believe Vista is finicky with my system memory, just like what Rob had pointed out (see http://news.digitaltrends.com/talkback151.html and look for Memory Caution).

I am afriad to use it until all of the kinks are worked out.

That's amazing that they hacked the acitvation server. Doesn't something like that have to be an inside job?

I thought this was pretty cool, in that, "Oh no they did-int!" sort of way. Still this is hardly an in the clear method, and the Vista INactivation features make me think twice about pirating it more than the activation ones (how they've said they will cripple suspected pirates' computers until full activation). I could see, in the future (listen up hackers!) someone wiht a legit license downloading update packages and then offering them up over a shadow activation network (everyone installs their version of windows update and that legit guy acts as the MS update server, only filtering out updater updates). Yeah. Rockin.
