"Warning about a possible fire hazard, Zenith has recalled for repair about 80,000 large-screen, analog rear-projection televisions manufactured between 1995-1998. According to U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announcement, a tear in a gasket could cause coolant fluid to leak from the picture tube, possibly causing smoking, charring and electrical arcing inside the television.

Zenith said it has received 45 reports of incidents involving the televisions, a few causing minor property damage.

The televisions were sold from April 1995 through April 1999 for between $1,200 and $2,800 each, the company said.

Zenith is advising anyone who thinks they may have one of the affected television sets to call (800) 777-5195 or visit the Web site www.projorecall.com for a free inspection and repair."

For those of you who are not aware, Zenith is actually owned by Samsung. So does this mean that some Samsung sets could possibly have the same problem? Do they share the same technology as the Zenith sets? I wonder. This is a bad start for Zenith, and I actually liked a lot of their new sets.
