well, considering that 90% of music ISNT more then stereo..
And most Video from movies is Dubbed to 2.1 upto 5.1 MAX..And all you are getting with the 7.1 would be added center, or a wider MIDDLE balance.
12m= about 40 feet.
6m= about 19 feet.
MORE to the point is construction..
What are the walls, floor and cieling made of.
And what ELSE is going into the room?
KNOW the system and speakers should be rated 2x and a little more, for EACH channel.
Fastening to Hollow walls can be COOL/neet/ interesting...As the vibration from the walls ADDS to the base responce. Having a Woofer, on a concrete floor SUCKS.

I assume this is for movies and music, not just movies?
If you have Bose speakers, then you will need a Bose amp and unit. My understandind is that you cannot mix Bose equipment with other brands.

You can buy the Bose in several configurations and because they are price protected, they will be the same price wherever you go. If you want to use your own amp, you can get the accoustimass (sp?) set up that is all passive and uses power from your amp. This solution also comes with it's own sub that runs line level from your receiver. Or you can buy one of the lifestyle units that has it's own amp...I would strongly suggest against that option as it's all BOSE proprietary. Once you have the lifestyle unit in your house, test multiple places for the sub. In most cases you might like what you hear and call it good. For the movie enthusiast I Would suggest an additional sub. Purchasing a good one with adjustable freq. settings is important. This way you won't overpower your room. Lastly, Bose does make a seperate center channel speaker that I would suggest you get as well in place of the center double cube that comes in the box. The designated center channel speaker sounds twice as good and is fairly inexpensive. A lot of the dialigue in a movie comes from the center channel so don't go cheap there. Lastly, if you plan on wall mounting the speakers, almost any aftermarket speaker bracket will work on the BOSE...see if the salesman will throw those in for free since your buying at his store and not his competition. Or...check out companies like Orb (who advertises on DT) they do a good job also. I personally own the accoustimass 5 speakers (AM5's). They are just the front two double cubes and the full size sub. I have them wall mounted and have always enjoyed them, plus they run off my amp. My next set of speakers might be BOSE as long as they sound good with music and movies. Listen for yourself, buy what sounds good to you and go with that!--Good Luck

Hey Dishlickinmax,
I looked at the Pioneer VSx816x and did some cross referencing on the best BOSE to buy. To make a proper match, you would want to get the Acoustimass 16's (price is 1169.00) it's a 6.1 system and would work well with that receiver. Since BOSE does not offer 7.1, you might want to consider a different Pioneer receiver, the Pioneer VSX-515. It's a 6.1 system to match the BOSE, and comes in at about a 100.00 less than the 816. The advantage in the 816 is of course 7.1 and 10W more power per channel. Their might be some other differences but I didn't look into it that much. I also noticed the AM16's come with the improved center channel so you would not need to upgrade that after all. Lastly, I would still suggest another sub for when you want additional bass during movie playback. (if you use the shopping link above for that Pioneer Receiver, you'll notice you can get it for about 250.00 on average instead of the 350.00 you found it for earlier...feel free to send me the finders fee!!)

Yeah, ECA, I've tried the Woofer on the floor, too, and that was just once.
