But the company believes that plasma technology is under unfair attack from competitors making “desperate attempts” to denigrate what it sees as plasma’s superiority, according to Bob Greenberg, Panasonic’s vice president for brand marketing.

To demonstrate plasma is better, the company has offered picture comparisons for journalists at electronics shows. And it has developed marketing materials that dispel some of the myths of plasma’s limitations, like how often to refill the plasma gas (never) and the problems with picture burn-in (none anymore).

I have been preaching forever that Plasma is better than LCD. It's life-span is long, prices are more affordable, and the pictures look more natural. LCD's tend to show a picture that's too sharp and vibrant, it's unrealistic.

I was at Best Buy once when a salesman told me to buy the extended warranty, that they would refill the gas when we needed too. I almost ripped his head off for lying!

i bet the bestbuy salesman actually believed what he was saying though, but was just misinformed.

I like the plasma look better than LCD as well.

Dark room ===> go plasma; Bright room ===> go LCD

I just don't buy the "one looks better than the other" arguments. Those arguments are way too subjective.

Best advice: Go and look at the actual TV's IN AN ENVIRONMENT SIMILAR TO YOUR TV ROOM, then buy what looks best TO YOU.

Recent product releases (mostly 1080p displays) suggest LCD is gaining on the technology side and on the cost side. If there's one long-term winner here, I'd have to bet on LCD. (Note: The long-term winner may not be plasma or LCD technology, but something ENTIRELY DIFFERENT.)

But it really doesn't matter which technology wins IN THE LONG RUN. To the consumer, all that matters is price and how that display looks TODAY.
