It may be have caught it from me, but my 24" CD HD monitor has become stupid. About 1 week ago it didn't come on when I turned on my G5...1.8 Ghz...OSX 10.4.9.

To the best of my knowledge, no settings were changed in any of the preferences.

When I turn on the G5 the power light in the lower right of the monitor comes on for about 15 seconds then goes out. And the monitor stays black.

The only way I can sometimes get it to come on is after turnning on the G5 I let it sit for about 1 min. I then unplug then replug the power to the monitor.

Display setting is set to Cinema HD Display...1920X1200. Computer sleep and display sleep are set to 3 hrs.

Not sure if this forum is a place to bring this up. If not, I would appreciate any leads as to sites for possible solutions.

There are a few Apple people here..
But I THINK its an internal problem..
And if you have the 1 year policy, I would RUSH it back and let them do a service on it.
It sounds like:
Line in the cable broke.
Sync for Computer sence is Dying.
Something in the ALWAYS ON state is over heating on Chip.

What about hitting the power button on the monitor on/off? Does that have any effect?

Did you change which DVI output on your mac the display is plugged into?

Can you try the monitor on a different system? If it still has problems, you know it's the monitor and not the system.

Did you ever figure out the problem? I'm experiencing the same thing, and it happens to be on a similar G5. Do you think it's the video card or something? I hope you found a solution....

Giovanni,

Can you try some of the things Ioman and I suggested above and let us know what happens?

I agree with ECA, IOman, and Dang. Try a different cable and try another computer. It could be the graphics card (overheat, mobo problem, or bad driver update). If the monitor works on another computer, then the problem is in the box. If you can find another monitor and try it on the tower, and it works, let us know.

Thanks for your suggestions guys, much appreciated.

I brought the monitor to work to try it on my g4 system here, and it turned on, but was still not working properly. For instance, if I was working on it, and I pushed the monitor power button the monitor would turn off for about 4 seconds, then turn back on. Similarily, if I put the computer to sleep, the monitor would wake it back up in the same amount of time. I took it to the apple store, and they confirmed that it was infact the power brick adapter, as they had another one to test on and the monitor worked perfectly. I haven't received the new brick yet, but I'm crossing my fingers that is the extent of the problem.

That is great news. It's amazing that a power brick would cause the types of problems you mentioned g.rimasti.

Thankfully it's just the power brick that needs to be replaced and not the whole monitor.

To myself it sounds more like the Power sense chip thats connected to the Monitor cable, inside the Monitor.
It sense's when the computer is turned ON, and turns the monitor on/Off. Or even a broken wire inside the cable.

Good luck, and I hope it works.
