Satellite technology does not support the two-way high-speed transmission that allows cable operators to offer video-on-demand services, for instance. While SBC could cobble together its digital subscriber line and satellite services to offer a close comparison to cable, it is still no substitute.

Damn right ! For the home user, cable is far better than DSL ! They want to compete with ATT and the other cable companies. You will remember the article a little while ago about the failed DirecTV merger with EchoStar, another satellite provider. It is not clear yet if this will go through or not.
