GigaTribe is fun and practical new software that allows you to share specific folders on your computer with friends (or coworkers!) located anywhere there is an internet connection, and best of all, it's free!

Basically, you select specific folders (and therefore files) on your computer which you want to share and then you invite your friends into your network. They can therefore download files (and even entire folders of files) onto their computer and you can do the same from the folders on their computer that they're willing to share. You can even use GigaTribe to access your computer from a remote location (work, etc...).

It's 100% safe (256-bit blowfish encryption, no spyware/adware), you can transfer huge files (no-limit) and it's easy to set up. Furthermore, all exchanges are encrypted, so your exchanges remain confidential. For more info or to download free GigaTribe, go to Digital Trends' download (http://downloads.digitaltrends.com/Internet/Internet+tools/File+sharing/511097/GigaTribe.html). I'm open to any feedback or questions you may have, just post them here or shoot me an email at john at gigatribe dot com.

GigaTribe is already part of DT's large collection of software downloads that are virus and spyware checked. I've changed the link of his post to our download page for it.

I've never tried it so I can't endorse it.

John, feel free to contact me via PM so that you can give me an updated PAD file and talk about how to contact us when you have updates.

Wow. This is the first time I haven't auto-banned for spamming... mostly because I could really use this and it has gotten pretty good reviews. And they say there's no personal bias in tech sites... psha!

To the developer/OP - this could be a hit on University campuses. You really should consider a Mac version. I know I know, I can't stand dealing with 'them' either, but I would recommend this to my lab in an instant if it weren't for three die hard Mac loyalists that insist that everything be cross platform (thank gawd we have no Linux folks, yet). :) In the 'real world' Macs are rare, but on University campuses, they've got around 40-50% market share (from what I've seen).

We're all over it! We've started working on it a few months ago. The first beta versions of GigaTribe for both mac and linux should be out sometime around Sept/Oct. As much as I hate macs, ya just can't ignore them if you want to succeed!

Hey! I use a mac.

Sorry! It isn't from a lack of trying it though!! I find the navigation a bit harder...I went nuts trying to figure out how to do a screen capture...the mouse with no left/right button was weird getting used to also...certain Word/InDesign documents behaved strangely when going back and forth between PCs-Macs...and on a related note, when I tried to put my songs on my friends iPod, I had to delete all his existing content because it had been uploaded/formated by a Mac computer whereas my home computer is a PC...in a nutshell, it's the compatibility issues that bug me...but I also have lots of friends who insist on using Macs...if you can't beat 'em, join 'em...

regarding an updated PAD file for our GigaTribe...my colleague should have it ready by tomorrow, I'll PM you a link.

i refuse to use a 1 button mouse. I have a great logitech keyboard/mouse combo. My mouse has 7 buttons, including a scroll wheel. :)

I actually haven't had too many compatibility problems with the mac. The main thing is just finding software at a decent price that works well.
