How many people are not using their integrated wireless networking card? When I get mine back, I will be setting up an 802.11g network and using a "g" card instead of the integrated networking.

Curious as to how many people like their integrated networking in their laptops.

I am using PCMCIA 802.11b card right now but mostly because of the problem with internal one.

Reception on internal one wasn't great, but it worked...

I plan on buying an 802.11g network soon, so I will be using the PCMCIA card slot for that.

I still don't have wireless networking at home so I am not using it. I am stuck using the good old RJ45 connection to connect to my desktop computer. :D

I LOVE built-in wireless networking. The only thing I'm kinda bummed about is the crappy reception this one gets (similar to the first generation of Apple PowerBook-Ti's).

Personally, the less stuff (cables, dongles, antenna, etc.) that hangs off or out of my laptop, the better. (I'm just waiting for wireless power... :D )

I had to add a router to our network recently, so I bought one with wireless capability....

Man, am I dissapointed with the built in wireless card on the 200a5. I *love* the capability and I'm getting hooked on it, but I'm eyeing some of the cheaper PCMCIA cards out there- both to boost the performance on my computer and add wireless to my bosses laptop (about 100ft away in a different building.)

So, I'm using it for now, but I can really see why I might not be for too long. I can't even go two rooms over and get a reliable signal.

Take care,
Chris

My school has a new wireless network and my laptop picks up the signal in places that I never imagined.

There are some places where it is not supposed to work but it does!

Overall I am happy without PCMCIA stuff hangin on the side of my laptop.

So you aren't using the integrated networking? What kind of PCMCIA card are you using?

It seems to me that 200A5 uses different built-in wirless card than 180B5.
I have 180B5 and it has a Orinoco card in it(mini PCI). I've been using it without a problem-even in the parking lot on the opposite side of where my router is placed.
For example, at a local public library, i couldn't get a strong enough signal at private desk to use their wirless with a Netgear's PCMCIA card on a different notebook. But with this 180B5, i was getting good to excellent signal.

I wonder why they didn't use the same wirless adapter.
Different manufacturer, different parts, i guess.

I assume you mean that you'll be adding a 802.11g card to the CardBus slot? I looked around and it doesn't look like anyone's come out with a Mini PCI card for 802.11g yet. That's all the "integrated networking" is - just another card that fits in the bottom. I'm sure eventually we'll see 802.11g Mini PCI cards on the market, at which point you should be able to swap out the .11b card for a .11g card and incur no extra weight.
