What is your home theater setup? I have an old Kenwood Stereo reciever but plan on upgrading too. I also have a toshiba 27" TV which surprisingly has component video input making this a unique television.

Is the Toshiba 61" a 16:9 or 4:3 format television?
Sounds like you have a great setup!

Sounds like it is 4:3 not 16:9. Still sounds like a great tv though.

Ok, here is an unusual setup:
TV: (ready?) 1982 RCA console (wooden frame), large screen.
Fantastic picture, this baby will probably never die. Its so outdated the remote only has channel up/down and off.
Receiver: Harman Kardon AVR 125
Speakers: BOSE powered subwoofer and cubes
CD/VCD/DVD/HD: xbox w/remote (I like to minimize the number of components on my TV). Playing video games in 5.1 is a neat experience.
VCR: Hitachi
The BOSE speakers are not the king of the hill, but they do good.
My subwoofer tends to emit a whine when it is not receiving any signal. Anyone have any ideas?

Aha! You are the one that recommended an Xbox for a DVD player aren't you?
Sounds like you have a sweet setup except for the TV. Keep it as an antique and upgrade to a plasma or a big screen man!

Yeah, its actually good for DVDs, but obviously thats not its main focus. The bazillion features that my panasonic has and I never use (like bookmarks and loops and whatnot) are not present. Although it does have good hw zooming and the menus are nice menus. Thats really about it. Bare bones as they say.
The frustrating thing from the home theater point of view is the xbox is a progressive-scan games system, but the DVD mode isn't (for license cost reasons if I remember).

Unfortunately the Xbox does not support Progressive scan DVD playback, otherwise I would recommend it as a good alternative.

Reciever: Technics SADA10-N
VCR: Sony SLV-M11HF

DSS: EchoStar PVR-501
Front Speakers: Sony SS-MF315
