Looks like I might need some parts for my 185A5 for out of warranty situation. Does anybody knows where I can get some spares?

Let me know.

VPR Matrix actually makes their own systems....they are a company owned by Best Buy (Subsidarary). That's what I have been told!

I'm not quite sure who makes them... but others have pointed it out that it's almost identical to Samsung P10 notebook as well as Micron T1000.

Good find, they do look very similar to the Micron and Samsung PC's. I looked on the net and cannot find a similar system to the 200A5. BUT I did notice that Samsung has Porsche design house design some of their LCD monitors..so perhaps the 200A5 is a Samsung laptop afterall, althought they do use IBM Hard drives and not Samsung. What brand memory is in there too? My writer is a Mitsumi not a Samsung, unless Samsung owns Mitsumi.

I did somemore research on the Samsung P10 and VPR Matrix 185A5 similarities and I am starting to beleive they are the same laptop.

I also found out that the new Samsung P10 model coming out will have integrated Bluetooth. I wish our VPR Matrix laptops did as well, perhaps in their newer models they will include Bluetooth. I attached a good looking picture of the Samsung P10 laptop.

Here is the answer....

Sources: Quanta lands orders from clone notebook vendor MPC Computers
David Tzeng, Taipei; Sarah Chang, DigiTimes.com [Monday 20 January 2003]

According to sources, Quanta Computer has landed orders from US-based MPC Computers, formerly named MicronPC. Shipments will start in March or April with monthly shipments of over a thousand units. MPC, a spin-off from Micron Technology, was bought by Gores Technology Group in June 2001.

Quanta declined to confirm the news.

MPC is one of the largest clone PC vendors in US. It is ranked tenth in the US desktop PC market. It also ships around 5,000 to 6,000 notebooks per month in the US, with 60-65% going to US government agencies and schools, sources said.

Samsung Electronics contract manufactures most of its notebooks while Mitac Technology produces its TransPort V1000 series, which has sold well. The series is similar to Mitac’s own-brand MiNote 8375 and features an Intel desktop CPU and 14.1-inch TFT LCD screen, sources said.

Quanta has targeted the clone notebook market before to fill capacity left over from brand vendors orders. Less than a year ago, it landed orders from US-based online retail vendor Best Buy for its vpr Matrix 200A5 and 185A5 wide-screen notebooks. Best Buy used to outsource large portions of its notebook production to Samsung. (170B4 & 180B5 now discontinued)

Good info. I seem to recall Quanta also building the HP laptops as well.

Quanta and Samsung split the job of making the laptops, but if you need parts, you can go to www.vprmatrix.com, they will give you any info about the laptop, and direct you to where you can get parts.
