View Full Version : IR Remote Interference Issue

I'm stumped by a problem I'm having with an IR remote. Just wall mounted a 32" Magnavox LCD TV. Immediately below is a small wall mounted shelf that holds a Directv sat box and a DVD player. The issue is that the remote (we're using the Directv remote to control the sat box and TV volume/power) only works during the day. At night, the remote works sporadically or not at all. I know that flourescent lights can interfere with IR remotes, but this trouble occurs when no lights are on in the room. The only source of light is the TV itself. I have put new batteries in the remote, and swapped the box and remote out for another set, and still the same results. I have even put the DVD player on top of the sat box and put various shields over the sat box to shield it from flickering effects from the TV. My last experiment, which I will try tonight, is to take down a large picture that is hanging on the wall opposite the TV. Maybe the glass is reflecting the output of LCD back to the IR sensor. If there is anyone that has any advice, please let me know.
Thanks - Jim
