"With features such as Seamless Link buffer underrun protection and Thermo-Balanced Writing, Philips initial DVD+R/RW offering appears to stand out from the crowd. Philips, a major player in the DVD+R/RW arena, attempts to sway consumers away from the DVD-R/RW format with their new DVDRW228 DVD+R/RW drive."

Personally I am scared to buy a DVD burner at this point. I remember when CD burners first entered the market. Media was expensive and the drives were very unreliable. I sort of see this in some of the current drives on the market. Plus, Windows XP doesnt support most DVD burners yet, so if you lose your software, you are screwed.

I wonder what the best burner on the market is?

No prob bro!
It's a good read, I'm kinda surprised at how much these drives have come down in just the last two years or so...definitely much more affordable than when they first started showing up. It wasn't really addressed on the review, and I'm sure it is different between vendors, but what does this unit cost? I saw a few 4x DVD(+or-) drives this weekend for around $200.

On price watch the cheapest one is around $290. Still a little high. You can get some of the competitors for a little cheaper, but with the $30 rebate it brings it back into a decent range.

Media is still pretty expensive. DVD+R's are around $4-$5 and +RW's are a couple dollars more.
