I think I'm almost there. I have an Intel iMac (white) with OSX Tiger.. and a PC Notebook. Both have wireless network & Bluetooth capabilities.
I have an Apple Airport Extreme Base Station, using the wireless to connect to the PC Notebook.
I have a Digital Cable box with many audio & video connections.
I have an LCD TV with many audio & video connections.
I have a DVD Player
I have a Surround Sound system with its own Amplifier, speakers, etc.
I have a 30-GB iPod Video.
I have several external 500 GB hard drives.
What I need is a way to put it all together. I want the ability to play music and video from any source. I want the ability to view video on the LCD TV
I'm looking at Vongo, a video download-rental service that only works for PCs. I'd like the ability to download their movies and watch them on the TV.
It seems there is one device that I need, and I can't quite put my finger on it. Wouldn't it be some sort of device that could connect the audio-video stuff to the network?
It seems I don't really need a server since the Airport Extreme Base station is connected to a USB hard drive that serves both the PC and iMac.
I've been going over this for hours, and really could use your insights.
