*cough this is bullsh*t if you ask me. Here is the NVIDIA press release:

"NVIDIA Corporation (Nasdaq: NVDA), the worldwide leader in visual processing solutions, today announced that the NVIDIA® GeForce™ FX graphics processing unit (GPU) received the distinguished Analysts' Choice award for the "Best Graphics Processor" of 2002, as selected by Cahners In-Stat/MDR, publishers of the Microprocessor Report. In addition, the GeForce FX GPU received the Breakaway award for the "Best New Product - Hardware" by the Computer Technology Industry Association. Both of these awards underscore the Company's commitment to advancing the state of innovation and design in the desktop PC industry.

"Of all the chips we sampled last year, NVIDIA's is clearly the fastest and most sophisticated," said Peter Glaskowsky, a senior analyst with In-Stat/MDR. "All of us will eventually benefit from the impressive technology being developed by 3D-chip companies. Gamers eager to realize the full potential of titles such as Doom III and Unreal II--and developers creating even more advanced software--will plunk down the big bucks for these boards right away."

Each year, the Microprocessor Report analysts review and evaluate more than 100 microprocessors, digital-signal processors, and application-specific digital machines. For a complete listing of the year's nominees, log onto http://www.mdronline.com.

"We are honored that In-Stat/MDR, a leading authority on semiconductor design, recognized the NVIDIA GeForce FX GPU's technical excellence with the Best Graphics Processor award for 2002," stated Dan Vivoli, vice president of marketing at NVIDIA. "Our technical excellence has made NVIDIA the worldwide leader in visual processing solutions."

Recognized by Fortune Magazine as one of the chips that will change your life, the NVIDIA GeForce FX GPU is the industry's first GPU to deliver real-time, cinematic quality graphics and special effects on the desktop PC. Featuring the NVIDIA CineFx™ engine, and support for high-level programming languages such as Cg, the GeForce FX GPU delivers visual effects on par with the hottest motion pictures. Packing nearly twice the number of transistors as previous NVIDIA GPUs, the GeForce FX GPU also utilizes the industry's most advanced 0.13 micron manufacturing process, enabling developers to create compelling content of unrivaled beauty, running at unmatched speeds."

The Radeon 9700PRO in my opinion is the best GPU of 2002..obviously Nvidia has paid them off. If it was so good, why are they only manufacturing a handful of them (for pre-orders) and have called it quits already!?

I guess they are not taking into account when the GPU will hit the market, just as long as it was designed and finished in 2002? Also if that is the case, perhaps they did not know that you needed a freaking snow blower of a fan to keep it cool. So if thats true, hell do I have a GPU schematic they could look at. Sure you need a -70 celsius cooling source, but as long as I have the design I could win right? ;)

Fortune wrote this up? Wow...have they even taken a look around the 'net....To me it looks like nVidia doesn't even really believe in their GPU/Video System.
