I've clean installed my 180b5 with XPHome CD that i had.
But now i can't seem to find PowerDVD(or was it WinDVD) to install.
Laptop came with only 3 CDs:
MS Works
Restore CD
Device Drivers

isn't there any way i can install DVD player without re-installing the whole OS with the restore CD?

(btw, Restore CD didn't appear to have any setup files... just lots of cab files, i believe)

help, please
thanks

It is CyberLink PowerDVD and the official web site for it is here:

http://www.gocyberlink.com/

I downloaded the latest patch (January 23, 2003) and applied it to the PowerDVD version that came installed on the vpr Matrix 200A5 and it seemed to work fine.

I don't know how you can get it without restoring from the CD. I also noticed that the OEM PowerDVD CD didn't come in the box and I wondered what would happen if I wanted to reinstall it. :(

I just called BB tech support and they told me that the only way to reinstall it is to run the restore CD to reinstall EVERYTHING...

As I mentioned in another discussion you guys should try NVDVD. It's nvidia's DVD player and I think it takes advantage of some of the features of the card to save power usage. I don't use the laptop to watch DVD's so I cannot attest to its benefits over other players but you should at least give it a try.

Another DVD player to try is DVDidle pro available at www.dvdidle.com. It supposedly caches the dvd to the harddrive so the dvdrom drive spin is kept to a minimum. Not sure if this saves power or just the wear and tear on the dvdrom. Also I think the player defeats the dvd region checking regardless of the firmware of the dvd drive.

thanks everyone for your suggestions...

Sunshine , is NVDVD for all types of graphic chips or is it only for Nvdia chips? Cause 180B5 has Radeon Mobile 7500...

DVDidle... hmmm interesting idea... i can think of some of advantages/disadvantages already... i'll look into that as well.

What do you guys think of WinDVD Platinum? It has gotten some good reviews...

Also, while searching, i came across Zoom Player HERE (http://forum.inmatrix.com/ikonboard/ikonboard.cgi?s=3e55c5d97e75ffff;act=SF;f=7)
Has anyone any experience with this?
