How does this system compare to the Alienware Area 51 M15x laptop: http://news.digitaltrends.com/talkback238.html

They seem to be in the same price range. I like that the Alienware system has a low-power mode that switches the graphics from the Nvidia chip, over to the integrated Intel graphics.

Which is a better system?

That's hard to say, but the Alienware is certainly more portable. Whether or not that makes it "better" is up to interpretation and ultimately comes down to user preference.

I've requested the Alienware for review but they told me it might be awhile before we get one. We'll get it reviewed as soon as it arrives.

Here is another question. Do people buy these gaming laptops so they can go to LAN parties with them? Why spend that much on a laptop when you could get a killer desktop PC and a huge monitor for that price? Maybe people that travel a lot buy these systems so they can game on the road?

I mean seriously, how many does Dell really sell?

It's hard to say how many people buy them, but the same goes for the $10K machines from Voodoo and Falcon.

I don't think people take them to LAN parties so much as they just want a gaming machine that's not the size of a small refrigerator.
