Titanium G4 Optical Drive

Brother replaced his optical drive in his powerbook g4 titanium dvi...cd drive is functional in that it accepts and ejects cd's...but computer is not seeming to recognize discs or even if the new drive is present.

im a pc user and not to sure about the machine...any suggestions?
