Hey all - I'm running Windows XP Pro SP1 on my vpr Matrix 185A5. If I pop open my Device Manager, it shows the following device under the Other devices section...
Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller
Any clue?
I do have a lot of stuff listed under the Universal Serial Bus controllers section, which are...
USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub
VIA Rev 5 or later USB Universal Host Controller
VIA Rev 5 or later USB Universal Host Controller
Any thoughts?
And yes, I have installed the two USB drivers off of the vpr support site, I have tried a USB mouse and it works fine, but I don't have any USB2 devices to test.
Thanks all...

Hmmm, OK, this is interesting...
I went into my Device Manager again, opened up my 1 unknown item, and clicked Update Driver.... Well, amazingly enough, something happened...and it updated! <<SHRUG>>
So, here's now what I have under the Universal Serial Bus controllers section...
USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub
VIA Rev 5 or later USB Universal Host Controller
VIA Rev 5 or later USB Univerasl Host Controller
VIA USB Enhanced Host Controller
Any thoughts? Anyone have similar or different experiences?
Thanks all...

What are you confused about, this looks normal. Did you want me to explain what each item is? If so it's no problem.

I guess I'm more confused on why it didn't automatically get "recognized" and I had to manually click "update" for it to "work".
But to take you up on your offer, yes, I'd love to know why there are 3 USB controllers, 2 of which are the same, and the 3rd which I had the above "issues" with. :-)

The usb driver has three layers: the controller, the bus, and the device layer. The controller attaches to a physical bus. The USB bus attaches to the controller and the root hub attaches to the controller. Any devices attached to the bus will attach to the root hub or another hub attached to the USB bus. The uhub device will always be present as it is needed for the root hub.
Your laptop looks like it is fine now. I checked my desktop computer and I have like 5 controllers and 5 hubs on it. I would not worry too much, everything is in working order
