My room mate is running Win XP (which im not used to yet) and has a little problem.
Whenever he presses "S" it types in caps only and whenever he presses "X" it opens Real Player... I tried removing Real and now it opens Media Player instead!
Updated drivers... no good
Removal of Keyboard and updated drivers... still no good
Big hammer and a Frys shopping spree... pondering now.
so you have tried a different keyboard? Is it a usb or ps2 type keyboard?
if its ps2, what happens you plugin a usb keyboard?

What type of driver / keyboard is he running?
goto Control Panel > Keyboard or through Device Manager.

My conclusion is that there has to be some sort of software mapping the keys to various functions. Would this be something in the registry you need to look for? I would first of all look under your add/remove programs and look for any program you think might try to bind those keys to multimedia functions as well as your CAPS lock issue. Tell us what you find.

Try Windows button U and turn off accessability features. Unless she/he needs them of course.
