Is the Soundblaster Audigy the best sound card on the market? It is sad that there seem to be no real contenders in the sound card market. It also sound slike even though the Audigy is a great card, there are lots of bugs with it.
What do you guys recommend?

Sound Blaster 16. You notice all the old stuff still works better.

It works better and has less trouble but that does not mean the sound is any better. I like the Audigy because it sounds great and has Firewire built in.
I used to have a Diamond MX 300, talk about a pain in the ass card. But it was the best when it came out.

santa cruz turtle beach
DEPENDS, what you want to do with it...
Create music, try tutle beach or maya..
To just listen to sounds and have basic control, use creative.

I used to have the MX300 soundcard. I loved it but man did it give me some serious grief. It was the only card in its day with 4 speakers support and the other options it had. The card took up about 5 IRQs, and you often had to disable soundblster emulation just to free up an IRQ so you could have other cards in your computer. The sound would also disappear forcing you to reinstall the card again (and yes this happened to everyone).
