Spyware Cyberlog-X

Recently I had this virus enter my computer titled Spyware Cyberlog-X and I was wondering what's the best way to get rid of it. When it started I got a popup window telling me my computer performance is being effected by adware or spyware aplications. Then I get a popup telling me I have Spyware Cyberlog-X. Finally whenever I open up IE it automaticly takes me to a page that is titled... safepageplace.com/xp and it trys to get me to download an antivirus program that "gets rid" of my problem of course knowing its to cause more trouble. Furthermore when I try to change my homepage away from that it keeps reseting.

I knowing they are popups don't click on anything but the X on the top right hand corner and reading a thread with a very simular problem I have gone through the nessisary steps for you guys to help me. My version is IE(7) and I'm on an XP operastion system. Last time I reinstalled windows was never. Also I downloaded HJT and here is what I have....

Oh almost forgot I also have a toolbar that is impossible to get rid of that showed up to go with this problem titled... Security Tollbar 7.1. Again hope this helps you help me.

If the tool fails to launch from the Desktop, please move SmitfraudFix.exe directly to the root of the system drive (normally C: ), and launch from there.


Reboot your computer in Safe Mode (before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually)
Double-click on SmitfraudFix.exe
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart it into Normal Windows.
A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.
The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, normally C:\rapport.txt


Rightclick on hijackthis.exe file and rename it to hjt.exe
Post a fresh hijackthis log using hjt.exe with rapport.txt, and let me know how your computer is running........Jim

Before you look at this I should add that before you posted I did a smitfraudfix before and it did solve my biggest problem of whenever entering the internet it automaticly redirected me to a page trying to get me to download software. It also got rid of my popup informing of a virus I mentioned previously. The only thing that's left and what I have come to beilive as only an annoyence then a major problem where a popup keeps telling me I have spyware applications that are effecting my computer's performance.

Your copy of HijackThis needs to be in a folder of it's own. When HJT fixes anything, it makes backups of the original files in the folder it is in. For this reason it cannot be run from a Zip file or from Temporary folders because the backups will be deleted. Having the backups could be VITAL to restoring your system if something went wrong in the FIX process!


1. Please go to you're 'My Documents' folder, right-click and select 'New > Folder' then name the folder 'HJT'.

2. Copy and paste HijackThis.exe to the new folder.


Use Add/Remove Programs to remove this program

Ok after all of your instructions I still get that one popup window telling me I have adware and telling me to click on the icon to get free anti virus software. My computer does work fine btw so I think its annoying me rather than doing stuff but ovbiously I doesn't matter since I still don't want it.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location and post the results.
Also "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Alright I think this fixed it! No more popups but to be sure here's my log. And my computer runs perfectly fine, even better than before so I wonder if there was other stuff I haden't even known about.

Looks much better, that program did pick up alot, It wouldnt hurt to run it a few more times to make sure you got everything.

Also Download and run CCleaner as the Temp folders should be cleaned out periodically as installation programs and hijack programs leave a lot of junk there. Theres also a guided tour to get familiar with the program

Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:


Use an AntiVirus Software - It is very important that your computer has an anti-virus software running on your machine. This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future.

Update your AntiVirus Software - It is imperitive that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.


Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is succeptible to being hacked and taken over. I am very serious about this and see it happen almost every day with my clients. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly.

Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.


Install Spybot - Search and Destroy - Install and download Spybot - Search and Destroy with its TeaTimer option. This will provide realtime spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software.

Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.



Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.
