To me this is an incredibly stupid idea. I just do not think that T-Mobile has the knowledge or the money to make this stick for too long. There have been so many broadband companies which have come and gone and I think they will be gone soon as well. DirecTV just left the broadband market and Sprint has been "testing" wireless broadband for years now, yet it is still not widely available.

T-Mobile does have money though, and if it was using the GSM/GPRS type of system and/or 3GSM, in any case, they would have the entirety of the GSM Confrence behind them to work on it, no?

Well I do not think they are using the GSM service for this, but a WiFi service like Sprints which uses Microwave technology via antennae. This means that you have to be in a "hot spot" in order for this to work. I just am not sure people will pay on top of their home internet service for another service "just in case" they decide to go to a Starbucks or any other hot spot. Granted T-mobile does have the largest coverage of this type according to the article. I just think that if there was really money in this, then ATT would be jumping on the bandwagon as well, but we have not heard anything from them (maybe the are teaming up with AMD? lol)
BTW, I think it's funny that Intel is jumping into this with their new Centrino campaign. Sure its low voltage and consumes less power, but does that warrant a go anywhere type PC that needs to back T-mobile...we will see if this lasts. I just do not think we are technologically ready for this as consumers.

People whom travel a lot will jump at this opportunity.
T-Mobile today announced new monthly pricing plans. For $29.99 a month, customers get unlimited access, with an annual agreement, to the T-Mobile HotSpot service at more than 2,100 locations nationwide including Starbucks coffee houses, national and regional airports and American Airlines Admirals clubs. The service will also be available in new locations as they are deployed, including airports, Borders Books and Music, and United and Delta Air Lines clubs and lounges.
