"Graphics chipset maker ATI has announced that it has signed a technology development deal with Nintendo, hinting at collaboration on future consoles, and a deal with Microsoft to supply the core chipset for Xbox 2 looks increasingly likely. Although there's very little detail in the announcement of the Nintendo deal, the obvious assumption is that this means that ATI will be supplying the graphics chip for the successor to GameCube. The company already manufactures the Flipper chip used in the Cube, and last week ATI engineering VP Dave Rolston told a technology conference that the company was actively pursuing deals to work on future consoles."
This is HUGE for ATI and a big bump for Nvidia, but I am not surprised to hear this at all. Nvidia and Microsoft just got out of court where Nvidia was suing because they felt the royalties they were recieving from Microsoft were to small....boy was it stupid to be greedy on their part. Now it looks like Microsoft could be going the ATI route and to no surprise.
