Has anyone who uses these laptops used Avid expressDV software on them? I am thinking of changing from my Compaq to the 200A5, but of course, it costs you 15% to take a 200A5 home from Best Buy only to find out that there are conflicts with chipsets, video cards, etc. I heard a rumor that Avid and certain Nvidea cards don't like each other....any advice would be helpful..thanks:confused:

I was buying a camcoder there (BB has the same return policy for them - 15% restocking fee if the box was opened), but customer service representaive told me that is I would open it carefully and return all the accessories there will be no charge. I did not have a chance to try that option (I did not open the box before returning it), but you can try to talk to manager and explain the situation - ask for 3-4 days or a week to try it.

I've run Xpress DV 3.5 on my 200a5 and it appears to work.
I primarily use Premiere, though, with Avid on board for customers that need it. Unfortunately, I don't have any Avid projects on my drives anymore, so I haven't given it the full test.
It opens, runs, imports clips and such. I haven't tried capturing yet...
So for what its worth- it appears to work, but I haven't put it through its paces yet. When I do, I'll post back here, I suppose.
Take care,
Chris

Oh yeah, also-
If you are trying to talk a manager into letting you try one without having to pay restocking fees, see if you can find an "open box" deal. They have to knock %10 off the price of opened stuff so they charge you %15- go figure. If its already open, though, it has already been paid for by the person who returned it.
If you are buying that open box deal, though, put it through its paces AT THE STORE before you buy it. I tested 3 the day I bought mine and spent 2 hours on it. Only one was good enough and that's the one I took home.
Or just take it back when you know it works and buy a new one.
Take care,
Chris
