View Full Version : Fan Noise?

OK, I love (almost) everything about my vpr Matrix 185A5. I'm just about to make it my primary computer and move all my data over, but I've got one issue I need to figure out.
Does anyone else have a fan which makes, um, noise? When it turns on to cool the CPU, there's kinda a pulsing sound to it. It's just loud enough that it's annoying. (I can hear it above normal background noise.)
I guess I'm wondering if others are experiencing the same thing - or not?
Considering Ioman's wonderful cust. service experience (I have this love/hate relationship w/ Best Buy as well), I'd like to get it taken care of before it's my #1 computer.
Thoughts?
(I'm crossing my fingers that if they don't have the part, I can still take my laptop home until it gets shipped to them.)

my "little fan that could" is puffing as well. its kinda annoying but i don't want to be pinned as a "perfectionist" again by IOman, so i'm just gonna bear the load this time.

oooh stabbed in the chest!! If we weren't all perfectionists, I don't think we would be posting the comments we do right? I know I am a perfectionist in my own right.
I notice my fan revs pretty load too.

I don't know, maybe I got a good unit or something because I can't hear my fan at all. Then again, that's probably because my notebook sits on the desk next to my desktop computer which, between the 4 or 5 fans, drowns out everything but the deepest thoughts in my own damn head. I think I've heard my notebook fan run one time in the past month or two and I leave my notebook on all the time.
Or maybe I'm just deaf.

I have a Volcano 9 coolmod which i bought but didnt use b/c i switched to a liquid cooled system. Its not in any way quieter when your workin your cpu hard, but it is variable speed so when your just browsing at night its just a whisper. If your interested i'll sell it for $20-25 w/ free shipping.

We are referring to the fan in our laptops, not desktops. Sorry man!

Wahoo! I was really hoping for a backpack-sized attachment to keep it running cool... heh heh
Thanks for the quick replies. Sounds like what I have is pretty much par for the course. Now to move lots and lots o' data...

P.S. I'm a perfectionist too. The first person who gets a scratch on my case dies...

There's a reason why I've got a good life insurance policy.
