IF someone contacted you and TOLD you to CHANGE your ISP password.

1998 I work for a gentleman in Portland as a Driver to make some Major sales. He loved my driving, and found out I knew computers. So, he wanted to hook up his laptop and connect to his ISP(AOL). I told him there was a good chance we could open his account from his new location...
Soooo.. We did.. He gave me his password and account name. and he got all the info, from his company accross the net. We did all kinds of work on his comp, and sent in his files to his company. When he left, I gave him the BASIC protocols for comp, protection. Passwords and all the general talk.
I recently found my piece of paper with his Info on. I know that he goes ALL OVEr the US and he asks for help where ever he goes. So I decided to check his account.
Went to AOL, and ................ Name and password STILL work.
I sent him a letter... From him..."Who, and what are you telling me to change my password"
I replied and reminded him WHO I was, and reminded him HOW he works AND reminded him to CHANGE his PASSWORD.
Sometimes I think I am to nice.................So much PAIN and missery a person could do......

Someday, someone will point out to him in no uncertain terms why you should listen to your friends & maybe even remember who they are...

that's why I make it point to never write down someone's username/account when I help them with something like this this. If they lose the pswd then they're at fault. If I write down their password than the fault is all mine for deliberately negating their security. I tell people to try to never write down a pswd, so I shouldn't be hypocritical. Even though you were being helpful, I could see someone who was less tech-savvy become a bit alarmed because of this. Better to avoid the situation.

The problem I have with him, is that he travels ALOT, and when he needs his comp, he shares the Info for getting into his account.. He isnt tech minded in any way so he needs a bit of help. In 4 years I would believe he would share it at LEAST 4 more times, and with the amount of Nievity(sp) he has. I thought it would only be kind to do this. Also, there are alot of us, that ONCE we hear a Password, we dont forget them. And I dont want him in that position.....
