We all know the VPR matrix 200a5 has the heat problem at left side keyboard. Some say it come from the hard drive. Any mod ideal from brilliam member here. Personally I want to mod with some heatsink (thin) put on top of hard drive and transfer to other place. This is not new ideal, I saw some IC has a thin heatsink and it attach to the bracket. The ideal is transfer the heat to the braket. see picture.

The heat from left keyboard not really boder me. But I prefer cool.

any feed back is welcome:D

This is a great idea and I am willing to experiment with mine once I get it back from Best Buy. What do you plan on doing?

I haven't open the chassis. So I don't know how it look like inside. First we need a heat sink, I think i can have it from work place. Second I need to find place in the chassis, so it can transfer the heat into that location. If you can find a good location. Post the picture of that location.

How much clearance to the components. seems like a Zalman ge force 4 H/S might do well here with a modded pci intake fan?

this might work http://www.newegg.com/app/Showimage.asp?image=35-888-450-02.JPG/35-888-450-03.JPG

with this

how are those gonna fit in the 200A5???
I think those are waaaaay to bulky....

I don't know, I don't own one. You guys ask for ideas, and gave us a picture of 2 chips to cool down. I gave you a few resources.

Vanin1's post said Any feedback was helpful, so there you go.

So the answer is no huh. Well can I have some dimensions or clearance tolerances? That would be a nice start :)

I actually tried to install the heatsink thingy on my desktop...
It was a snug fit at best.... <sigh>.... the thing is about as thick as our laptop, so I don't think it'll work.... but thanks for the idea anyway....
maybe they'll come up with a mini version or something... ^_^

How much clearance is there? Heat pipe is probably the way to go. Most note book CPUs as well as the mini units use heat pipes, so I know some one makes something usable.

I check all the heatsink type: the only best heatsink to make it work is the one on the picture (on top of the IC). But that type of heatsink, so far we can not find at retail store like fry's or radio sack. I check the internal picture of 200a5 , look like the hard drive gets a plastic cover. Don't know why? But it is there. Second problem is very difficult to open the keyboard, if you are a novice user (I take the advice from the guy upgrade his hard drive). Remember even you put the heatsink on top of the hard drive, the heat is still there. It could make the hard drive cool a little bit but the heat transfer to the chassis is still there. I think the only way is put the thin heatsink from the top of hard drive and make it stick on top of the heatsink of the CPU (see picture with black mark). That way we transfer the heat from hard drive to the heatsink of CPU. And the fan of cpu will do the work, flow the heat out

The problem I see would be that the tape heat sink represented by the black line is too long a would disipate heat along the path between the Hdd and cpu, thus leaving the heat on that side still, though more spread out. Could work though.

I think that an exhaust fan would be a better way to go if you could.

Some thing like this, but shaved down a bit.

HDD fan (http://www.newegg.com/app/Showimage.asp?image=35-888-452-02.JPG/35-888-452-01.JPG)

What do you think ?

You could also use something like these:

I have one of the cooling pads and it lowers the temperature quite a bit. I can't seem to find the PCMCIA version though. Only drawback is that it adds a little bulk...

I'm not really into pc modding so I could be wrong, but do you think the cpu fan would be strong enough if we direct some of the heat of the HD to the cpu heatsink???
if the fan is not strong enough, then surely this will slow down the cpu because of the heat.... maybe a fan swap is in order...

The first choice hoses you pc card use which for me would be a problem, but maybe not everyone, The second is a good product, and I have one but they tend to be louder than I care to hear. Dunno:dunno
