A few days ago i noticed that my computer was begining to run really sluggish after i tried to open a divx movie i downloaded from the kazaa. I wasn't able to open the file and had to shutdown explorer in order to get rid of the sluggishness. I thought it would be the file i downloaded so i attempted to delete it, but i kept getting a message that it was in use from another program. I shut down all my programs that were running and i was still unable to delete it. I am also unable to go into safe mode to try to delete and going into DOS does not help either. I scanned it with norton antivirus and it reported no virus'. My computer i believe runs fine till i try to open that one file.... it is really annoying me and i dont know how to get rid of that file. Has anyone else run into this problem too or seen anything similiar? I do not even know if it is the file that is screwing my comp up, but all my problems started after i tried to open it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
What's the file's name? Is it supposed to be a movie?
As for sluggishness, go into Windows Task Manager to see which process is consuming valuable CPU cycles. That should give you an idea of what program(s) are responsible for your sluggish problem.

First of all, in case you haven't heard, KaZaA is loaded with Spyware. And second of all, Windows XP runs slow in the first place, since Microsoft saw fit to cram a whole ton of useless features into the Luna(-tic, -cy) interface. Basically, between the spyware and the useless extras, XP is sucking your processor dry, devoting precious processing to mindless crap. Want some advice? Scrap XP, get yourself a 98SE CD (the last decent Windows OS), and for god sakes, quit using KaZaA! I'm willing to bet that your computer will smoke after making the above changes.

I think you're going to have to go look up one of those programs that look for spyware. I wonder if that file isn't starting some sort of background process complete with file access and outgoing tcpip stack. A la, lost performance.

kazaa with no spyware
How much memory do you have? When you try to open the movie, is your system already using up a lot of memory? What is the application you are trying to use to load the movie?
The sluggishness is most likely due to your comp trying to read the movie into memory and either:
a) you are out of memory so it starts to swap
b) the movie is corrupt so it gets kinda hung trying to read it, causing the sluggishness and the reason why you can't delete it.
If you playback other divx movies that are similiar in file size, do you get the same effect?

I know exactly what the problem is. You probably have the wrong codec or there is some information in the file which is missing or incorrect. Remember code is just 1's and 0's, if there is data missing or not syncing up right, then this will cause your play to crash. Possible reasons:
-Bad codec
-Missing data
-Bad rip on the other end (proprietary software?!?)

YO, i had that exact same problem.
you are not goin crazy..
ok so you have a strangly corrupted movie file that sucks up mem when u try to use it.
you try to delete it but you cant because its "in use by another program" which you and me know is wrong.
so
heres what you do.
(1)get the Kazaa file sharing application.
(yes i know it has spyware... yes i do care..but i still use it.)
(2)Go up into the options somewhere and share the folder with the file.
(3)Delete it in kazaa.
(Luckily for us someone dosent care about quality programming there because it will delete anything, regardless if its "in use by another program")
that should do it, hope i could help, it was driving me crazy :P

Does anyone else think that 1532 page views is alot?
And what else that irks me is that all these people who haven't registered yet, posting and asking questions. I didn't even know that was possible. Maybe unregistered created a nickname that said just that, but then again the forum isn't keeping track of posts. Probablly firewall!
One word.. KazzaLite. All the fruity goodness of Kazaa w/out the spyware.
Use KazaaLite's "feature" to delete your files instead of Kazaa! Your computer will thank you for it.

You are probably looking at the old posts man. We set it up a few weeks ago so that you had to be registered to post. What irks me is when people DO register then don't post. Why register in the first place!?

You can use AdAWare to get rid of that spyware.

Ya but why 1580 page views. Don't you think that is alot? The thread was only created a month ago. It's not like it has been around for a year or two.

Sounds to me like your pc is now loaded with spyware. If you haven't got a decent spware scanner and remover, get one!! Use Kazaa to search for Webroot spy remover 3, download it and copy the crack over to replace the .exe file. Then update the definitions online and scan. It could also be a codec problem, try ace mega codecs pack 5.01 this will sort all your codec needs (also available through kazaa). Also I'd recommend using bit torrent (suprnova.org) to download films its a little slow at the start but soon flies along and its spyware and virus free. I'd also recommend using a separate hard drive for downloading because if your main drive is constantly being written to and from because of a download manager this can affect performance.
